“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” --Brian Tracy
Gratitude is in and complaining is out!
The above heading is not a trend by any means. It has to become implemented into your life. It must become a way of life. I’ve written before of the importance of staying in a place of gratitude when manifesting. It’s one of the cardinal rules. Especially when showing gratitude for things you want, that have not yet manifested in the physical, shows confidence and faith. Developing an “attitude of gratitude” involves consciously thinking everyday the things you have to be thankful for. Start thinking of things you are thankful for first thing when you wake up in the morning. Set the tone for the day.
Right now I am thankful to be writing these words as I sit under the sun, periodically looking up to gaze at the ocean. I am thankful for the sound of the birds chirping and the healing tea that I am sipping. When you take the time to notice what you have to be grateful for it really forces you to be present. What a beautiful gift it is to get the benefit of gratitude and the serenity of being present … fully in the moment. To feel thankful when we experience something painful becomes more difficult. For instance, I have had a sinus infection for the last week. I found things to be grateful for in this situation and I affirmed, “I am thankful for my body and its ability to cleanse itself and heal itself.” “I am thankful for the healing herbs that I am able to afford and that are conveniently available to me.” ACTION: make a gratitude board! Put pictures and words on this board that remind you of all you have to be thankful for and to remind you of how fortunate you are. It doesn’t have to be a big poster board, you could make it on a sheet of paper. One of the items on my board is a letter I received from the mother of one of the children I help support in Africa. This letter informed me that the money they received helped to buy the child his own mattress, pay for a cake and candles to help celebrate his 9th birthday (this was a first for him!) and help provide food for the family. Tears of gratitude fall from my eyes every time I read it. I am so thankful that I am able to help others and I am so thankful to have her letter to remind me of how fortunate I am.
Now, to address “complaining”. When you find yourself complaining look at the gratitude board you made. If you’re not near it, then think of it. Complaining is such a negative habit. It immediately lowers your vibration. I’m sure many of us are not even conscious as to how much we complain. Make a pact with yourself to become more aware of how much you complain and try to eliminate it. Complaining stems from fear, like anything that doesn’t feel good. It involves not taking responsibility for your own thoughts and feelings. It’s a very “I’m a victim”, “I suffer” type of behavior . When stuck in this frame of mind it becomes difficult to see that we are CHOOSING to be a victim and CHOOSING to suffer. It can be a way to seek attention, but it’s not “good attention”. I recently witnessed someone complain of being cold and just sit there when less than 2 feet away there were 4 folded blankets. CHALLENGE: become aware of how much you complain and notice how differently you feel physically, mentally, and spiritually when you choose an “attitude of gratitude” instead. Remember this … when you are thinking and feeling grateful for something wonderful in your life you are automatically manifesting even more wonderful things!
I’ll end this article with another awesome quote you could use on your gratitude board.
“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” --Oprah Winfrey
